Sheerine Alemzadeh, Media Consultant
Sheerine currently works for the legal department of Tahirih Justice Center, a nonprofit organization providing legal relief, social services and public policy advocacy for immigrant women and girls fleeing violence. A recent graduate of Georgetown University, she gained honors for her major in International Politics with a minor in Women’s Studies.
At Georgetown, Sheerine founded Girl Talk, a gender-awareness mentorship initiative with female Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts High School students. Sheerine has previously interned for KARAMAH, Search for Common Ground and the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. She is a recipient of the School of Foreign Service Dean’s Medal, the Goldman Sachs Global Leader Award, the John Carroll Scholarship, the Krogh Millennial Scholar Award and the Lena Landegger Community Service Award. Sheerine is particularly interested in the intersection of gender and cultural identity, specifically in the context of intercultural dialogue and trans-national feminist organizing.
Kate Farrar, Communications and Board Community Director
Kate Farrar is the Director of the Leadership and Training Institute (LTI) at the American Association of University Women (AAUW) focused on managing several leadership development programs for women. Prior to AAUW Kate was Associate Director of National Programs and Policy at Wider Opportunities for Women also in Washington, D.C. Kate is from Connecticut, where she was a lobbyist for nonprofits, advocating for issues such as the statewide smoking ban, child nutrition, and women's rights. Whether it has been teaching college freshman, leading the Women's Caucus in grad school, or as a field coordinator for the presidential campaign, her passion remains the engagement of communities for change. Kate has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Connecticut and a M.A. in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University.
Alyssa Friedland, Media Consultant
Alyssa Friedland works in social-cause advocacy and marketing for a small public relations firm in DC. She focuses on work with local gender and sexual equality non-profits and also large companies who desire to foster a positive relationship with GLBT consumers. Alyssa graduated from Georgetown University in 2006 where she founded support services for women affected by eating disturbances and taught biology at a local public school. Alyssa has always been passionate about health and science and believes that ensuring all women are supported and healthy is the root of her commitment to equality.
Alyssa is originally from the Bay Area, loves visiting aquariums, and recently became a certified yoga instructor.
Lydia Nylander, Fundraising Director
Lydia Nylander is a born and bred Londoner who uprooted and moved to Washington DC, seven years ago. She is a LLM graduate of the George Washington University Law School with a concentration in International and Comparative Law and a LLB graduate of the University of London. Since arriving in the US, working for the social change has been a driving force both professionally and personally. Currently, Lydia is Director of Grants Management and Development at a leading national consumer advocacy organization. In her spare time Lydia enjoys long distance traveling, creative writing and speaking Arabic …… badly. Lydia’s ultimate vision is to contribute in a meaningful way to the lives of younger women and their ongoing struggle for recognition and respect.
Alison Stein, YWTF Founder and Advisory Board Chair
Alison Stein is the Founder and Board Chair of the Younger Women’s Task Force (YWTF). Alison served as YWTF’s National Director from June 2004 until April 2006.
Born in New Haven, CT, Alison developed the concept of YWTF during her years as an undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was actively involved in women’s issues on her campus, in the communities of Philadelphia, and internationally.
Alison’s work with YWTF has been featured in a variety of publications including The Village Voice, Congressional Quarterly, Washington Post, Women's E News, and The New Yorker. She has been a guest lecturer at Georgetown University, and spoken at dozens of conferences and panels across the country. Alison is the youngest board member of Women's Prerogative and was nominated for the 2005 Young Woman of Achievement Award presented by the Women's Information Network. Alison is a violinist, lives in Philadelphia with her husband Tom, and attends law school at the University of Pennsylvania.
Aisha Taylor, Outreach and Membership Development Director
Aisha Taylor was born and raised in Sacramento, California. At the University of San Diego, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Humanities with an emphasis on feminist liberation religious studies.
Currently, as Executive Director of Women's Ordination Conference (WOC) based in Washington, D.C., Aisha leads the world’s oldest and largest Catholic organization working for women to be priests in a renewed, inclusive Roman Catholic Church. Aisha is also a diversity and organizational change consultant for Jones & Associates Consulting, Inc., which works to create leaders and human systems that counter oppression through diversity, inclusion and organizational excellence. Aisha also serves on the Board of Directors for NETWORK, A National Catholic Social Justice Lobby. Aisha spends her free time dancing, cycling or hanging out with family and friends.
