PLANNING FOR OUR FUTURE

Don't mistake our quietness this summer for inactivity! The YWTF Chicago Board has been busy holding strategic planning sessions on how better to achieve our goals and meet the needs of our members. The first meeting was held in place of the July Board Meeting on July 8, and the second will be held in place of the August Board Meeting on August 12. Though these meetings are for board members only, we want to hear from YOU. If you have any suggestions or ideas on how the board can better work with its members, please contact us at ywtf-chicago@hotmail.com. More details regarding the two strategic planning sessions will be included in the September newsletter.

Upcoming YWTF Events

Board Meetings
The YWTF Chicago Board meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM. This meeting is open to everyone, and we would love for you to attend.

The August 12 meeting will be a Board Strategic Planning meeting and will be closed to the public.

Regularly scheduled, open meetings will resume on September 9. This meeting will be held at Argo Tea on Randolph (16 W. Randolph). We hope to see you there.

YWTF Chicago Voter Education Event

As part of YWTF National's get-out-the-vote initiative, we are holding a non-partisan voter education event on September 25. The goal of this event is to inform the Chicago community of the candidates' positions on issues that affect younger women. The panel will be made up of candidates for state senator in the Chicago area and will be moderated by Silvia Rivera of Radio Arte.

Partners for this event include The American Association of University Women, Chicago Foundation for Women, International Visitors Center of Chicago, Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition, Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, Between Friends, Planned Parenthood, Children and Teen Issues Committee of the Chicago Metropolitan Battered Women's Network, and Rape Victim Advocates.

Planning for this event is ongoing. If you are interested in being involved in the planning, please contact us at
ywtf-chicago@hotmail.com.

2008 Elections

In addition to organizing the Chicago voter education event, YWTF Chicago will also make every effort to provide its members with useful voter information over the course of the elections. If you know of an event or website that provides non - partisan information regarding the 2008 candidates (local, regional or national), please email us at ywtf-chicago@hotmail.com. We would love to include it in our next newsletter!
