Chapter Leadership Bios



Samantha Sewell, Chapter Director  


Sam Sewell is the Chapter Director for YWTF: DC Metro and works as the Executive Coordinator to the President at NARAL Pro-Choice America.  Prior to her work at NARAL, Sam worked as a National Campus Organizer with the Feminist Majority Foundation.  While with FMF, Sam campaigned in South Dakota for 3 months to help defeat the draconian abortion ban through mass student voter registration drives and student outreach and education.  Sam is a graduate of the University of North Texas where she enjoyed activism with the school's Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and playing with the UNT Women's Ultimate Frisbee club.  In 2005 Sam co-founded the Texas Equal Access Fund, an abortion fund that assists low-income women in paying for their abortions.  The TEAfund has since grown to be one of the largest funds in the country.  In her spare time Sam enjoys going to the beach, painting, and spending time with her amazing partner, Mike.

 

Leah Stern, Communications Director


Leah Stern is currently the program assistant at the Center for Health and Gender Equity (CHANGE), a non-profit organization which monitors the United States' international policies on sexual and reproductive health and rights, with a particular focus on women and girls. Her work includes research and analysis, communications (including website management and coalition work), and supporting the outreach and policy work of the organization. Before joining CHANGE, Leah worked in the Family Initiative and Policy departments at Legal Momentum (formerly NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund). There, she advocated for women on issues including reproductive health and rights, judicial nominations, and employment non-discrimination. Previously, Leah wrote about equal access to health care for disadvantaged groups for the Pan-American Health Organization, a division of the World Health Organization. Leah graduated from Wesleyan University with dual majors in Latin American Studies and Comparative Politics (Government).



Sabrina Hersi Issa
, Technology Director


Sabrina Hersi Issa is the Technology Director for YWTF and producer of the organization's podcast FierceTalk. She currently runs the online firm Be Bold Media, Podcauses.com and is a public radio contributor. Previously she was the Program Advisor for Afghans for Civil Society, an NGO where she did online organizing and developed women's programs, global health initiatives and independent media in southern Afghanistan. While at Oxfam America, she helped produce and edit the multimedia project, Fairness in the Fields, for the organization's Farm Bill campaign. Sabrina has served as a staffer for the United Nations Association at both the United Nations Headquarters and the US Dept. of State and has served as a volunteer teaching global affairs to DC public school students. 

 

 

Meredit King, Diversity Director

 


Meredith L. King is currently the Program Coordinator for Education and Outreach at Round House Theatre. Before working in the arts, Meredith was an organizer and National Outreach Liaison for the 2004 March for Women's Lives in DC, working to mobilize young women and women of color, and organizing events as part of a multi-city speaking tour. She served as the Campaign for Access and Reproductive Equity Intern with ACCESS: Women's Health Rights Coalition in Oakland, California and later went on to become a member of their Board of Directors. She currently works to use the arts to educate, empower, and build community both inside and outside of her position at Round House Theatre. As a freelance playwright and director, she has worked with eXtreme eXchange: Political Theatre With a Pulse, and theHegira, a theatre company focused on the works by and about women of color. Meredith is a native of Cleveland, OH, and a graduate of Stanford University, with a degree in Feminist Studies and Drama.


 

Erin Mann, Outreach Co-Chair

 

Erin is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated with honors from the University of California, Davis with a degree in International Relations.  She moved to Washington DC and got involved with YWTF shortly thereafter. She was elected to the position of Co-Chair of Outreach the following spring. Women's rights and quality have always been important issues for her and she enjoys getting to work with other motivated young women to promote a better future. Erin works for a federal affairs firm in downtown Washington DC.

 

 

Ana Kay Yaghoubian, Outreach Co-Chair

 

Ana Kay Yaghoubian has BA in Sociology and Women's Studies from George Mason University and Master's Degree in Public Administration from American University. She was a student activist at George Mason, participating in the student senate and a president of the Women's Coalition. Ana Kay has performed internships with the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, Wider Opportunities for Women and the Smithsonian Institution. She is very passionate about reproductive rights and empowering women and girls through pursuits such as financial literacy and political activism. Ana Kay currently works for the Association of Public Health Laboratories and resides in Rockville, Maryland.
